Eurail Pass information

As Liechtenstein is a very small country (Vaduz, the capital city with just 10 villages, situated in between the Swiss and Austria) there is no special Eurail Pass to visit this country. When your Pass is valid in Austria you can also travel to Liechtenstein.

Railway information

Although the small country Liechtenstein has no railway of its own, it is connected to the international railway network going through Liechtenstein by the main junction Feldkirch–Schaanwald/Nendeln–Schaan–Buchs which was constructed in 1872 by the Austrian Federal Railways.

There are good connections to the centers of Europe from the railway stations Sargans and Buchs (Canton St. Gallen, Switzerland) as well as Feldkirch (in Vorarlberg, Province in western Austria).

Liechtenstein has a well established bus network with extremely attractive fares and it fits in with the train timetable for connections to Sargans, Buchs and Feldkirch.

Tourist information

Just 100 square miles/160 square kilometers for a whole state! Room for a constitutional monarchy. Space for affluence, modernity, tradition and concern for the environment to all prosper side by side. Thanks to this firm commitment, each single community in Liechtenstein shines like a jewel in the middle of a hectic world.

The magic of smallness is also based on facts: about 32,000 inhabitants living in 11 villages create a feeling of belonging and being taken care of which also warmly envelopes our guests. Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein where both Prince and government have their home, is most likely the country’s best–known municipality. The country is 15.2 miles/24.6 km long and 7.7 miles/12.4 km wide.

Liechtenstein is a constitutional hereditary monarchy, based upon democratic and parliamentary principles. Head of State is Prince Hans–Adam II, the 13th Prince of Liechtenstein. Castle Vaduz is, first and foremost, the residence of the Prince and his family. It is by no means coincidence that the Princely Family is never talked about in the tabloids. Their private sphere is keenly guarded, and that is mainly why the Castle is not open to the public. But the National Holiday, August 15th, vividly conveys the closeness between the Princely Family, the local people, and their guests, and altogether, they are celebrating the national holiday with an unforgettable firework display in the evenings.
